How to Install Android 2.2 (Froyo) Samsung Galaxy5 (I5500 and I5503)

Ok this is my first blog...after turning my Galaxy 5 into a brick 4 times...i finally succeeded in installing Froyo on it....could not find any posts online so decided to share this knowledge with everyone :) ....Its pretty simple....And one thing this is not officially available for the indian firmwares so remember this would void your warranty....after installation i'll be telling you how to root it (God mode for users!!!)...

You will be needing the following before you start the installation and rooting process
1. Your Galaxy 5
2. Ops file
3. Android 2.2 firmware
4. Odin Flasher (Windows....linux users please use wine and run it...preferrably ubuntu 9.10)
5. universal androot(for 1.6 - 2.2....after the installation is successful)

So now when you've downloaded all of it, you are ready to go..... :)

Installing Android 2.2 (Froyo) on your Galaxy 5

Step 1

Take a backup of your phone contacts into your sdcard. Goto Contact ->menu->export to sdcard. This will create a *.vcf file.

Step 2

Extract the I5500LUYJP2.zip file and copy the extracted I5500LAROJP2.tar file to a preffered location.
Copy the EUROPA_v1.0.ops file to the same location.

Step 3

Now Poweroff your phone and remove the SD card and SIM from it and reboot in Recovery mode.
You can boot your phone in recovery mode by pressing the Volume down button + Center Button + End call button(power button) together.
Upon pressing the above combination you will see a black screen with a warning saying "Downloading" as shown in the image.

When you get this screen, connect your phone via USB to your system.

For windows users make sure you have Kies installed . (The driver to recognize your phone).

Linux users needn't worry...you are the best... :)

Once you get a Ready to use notification proceed to the next step.

Step 4

Open Odin Multi downloader.exe . Make sure that you check the One Package , Reboot and Protect OPS options. Your phone will be listed in the COM ports once the ready to use notification has popped up.

In the OPS option browse and select the downloaded EUROPA_v1.0.ops file and in the One Package option select the extracted I5500LAROJP2.tar file .

Once you've made sure that everything is according to the screenshot on the right click on start and wait till the phone reboots itself.

Step 4

After your phone reboots perform a factory reset by typing *#*#7780#*#* into your dialer pad.

Your phone is now installed with Android 2.2 (Froyo) !!! :)
